Choosing a Patio Design for Your Perth Home

Roof Materials and What They Change

The design decides the shape. The material decides how the space feels. Flatdek, Trimdek and corrugated are all Colorbond roof options, and Colorbond is the standard we work in. It is durable, pre-painted, available across the full colour range, and all the coil comes from BlueScope. 

Solarspan is the insulated option, built on a Bondor panel with a Colorbond top-skin. The insulation makes a real difference to the temperature underneath through a Perth summer, which is what makes it worth the step up on a west facing space. Polycarbonate lets light through, which suits an area that would otherwise sit dark, at the cost of heat control. 

We keep a showroom at our Anketell office specifically so you can see the finishes before you commit to one. Colour and profile look different in a brochure than they do overhead.

What the Build Actually Involves

A patio in Perth is a permanent structure, so most projects need building approval before anything can be ordered. We prepare the site plan and elevations, prepare the engineered specifications, and lodge the building approval on behalf of the owner. Our jobs are certified through a private building certifier rather than waiting on a full council assessment, which brings building approval down to approximately 2 weeks. 

Installation is then typically 8 to 12 weeks after approval, because the structure is manufactured to your measurements. We carry out a final check measure before anything is ordered. 

Where planning approval applies, that stage can take up to 60 to 90 working days on its own. It is triggered when the combined length of the patio and the house wall it attaches to exceeds 9 metres with a setback under 1.5 metres, and on strata titled properties. We work out which path your block falls into at quote stage, so the date you are given is the real one.

What It Costs

Patios are quoted per job, because the price moves with the span, the roof style, the material, the ground conditions and how the structure ties into your existing roof. We quote free and on site rather than over the phone for that reason. 

A deposit of 6.5% starts the approval process. From there, Progress Payment 1 is due on lodgement to council, Progress Payment 2 when approvals are received, Progress Payment 3 when materials are on site, and the final payment on practical completion. Interest free finance of up to 18 months is available, and we accept cheque, cash and most major credit cards. Terms and conditions apply.
